Tips on replacing a car trip, maps and routes, and more
Maps and routes
Want help replacing a short trip by car, such as to local schools, shops or medical services? If you can’t determine your route by the sources below, email us and we’ll arrange a safe one.
Here’s Transport Canberra’s page of maps and routes for walking and cycling. Sadly, there is no Google Map/Apple Maps version of these maps that we’re aware of. If you want a paper copy of Your Guide to Cycling in Canberra, I give them out at our social rides. They’re also available from Pedal Power‘s office in Genge St, Civic, and the Canberra and Region Visitor Centre at Regatta Point. The ACT Govt will also post you one.
Canberra has 10 official CBR Cycle Routes, but many do not go near schools or shops or libraries. They’re also in various degrees of quality, but with investment and tweaks in particular places to connect secondary paths to the main paths, they’ll be more attractive.
The wayfinding signage also varies – sometimes the route signs are literally 10cm wide (we’ve measured them) and are blue or purple on purple.
Some of the signage includes maps. Here, for example, is signage for the C4 which runs from Civic to Tuggeranong.
